Noam Sheriff is one of Israel’s outstanding and most versatile musicians.
Born in Tel Aviv in 1935, he studied composition with Paul Ben-Haim in Tel Aviv, Boris Blacher in Berlin and Igor Markevitch in Salzburg.

In 1957, at the age of 22, he became world-famous with the premiere of his work ‘Festival Prelude’ with Leonard Bernstein and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.

As a composer and conductor, he has taught at the universities of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Cologne and Salzburg. He has also performed as a guest conductor with many of the world's leading orchestras.
His works ‘Revival of the Dead’ (première in Amsterdam by the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra) ‘Sephardic Passion’ (première in Toledo with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra with Zubin Mehta (conductor) and Placido Domingo (soloist) and ‘Psalms of Jerusalem’ (première Jerusalem, December 1995, where the composer himself conducted the work) are today regarded as milestones in Israeli music.

1989-1995 Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Israel Symphony Orchestra.

Noam Sheriff has been Professor of Composition and Conducting at the Rubin Academy of Music at Tel Aviv University since 1990 and its Director since July 1998.

Since 2004 he has been music director of the Haifa Symphony Orchestra in Haifa, Israel.
